Children’s Programs

Children’s Weekly Story hour

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. the librarian hosts a multi-age Story Hour geared to preschool children. Each Story Hour revolves around a theme. Stories are read followed by an activity or craft. Will resume in September.

2nd Saturdays

Second Saturdays are a variety of programs designed for children of different ages.  They are held on the second Saturday of each month. Saturdays offer a time for area children to gather at the Bixby with friends, classmates and neighbors. Programs can also be a chance for parents to spend time with their child after a busy work week.

(The usual “Second Saturday” program for September will take place on Saturday,  Sept 30th).

9/30, 10–11pm Youth Archaeology Program:  “What’s Under Your Feet?”

September is Vermont Archaeology Month.  Has your child every wondered what they are walking on?  Do they stoop and collect interesting bits and pieces when out on a walk or a hike?  Perhaps they’d be amazed to learn a bit more of some of the things under our feet?  This is a Children’s Program for 5-7 year olds. Together we will explore and handle Native American artifacts, discuss their uses, what they are made of.  We will play guessing games , and mix and match games.  Be prepared to be amazed!

9/30 11:30 – 12:30 Guest Children’s Author: Ashley Wolff

Beloved Vermont Children’s author and illustrator Ashley Wolff will host an hour long program.  She will be reading aloud from her work and illustrating as she does so, entertaining young and old alike.  Please bring along copies of her books to autograph, or you may purchase books at the program.  This program is made possible by the generosity of Ashley Wolff and Addison County Readers.     Pre-registration required.  Register Here or contact Rachel Plant, rachel.plant@bixbylibrary.org.

10/14  Movie:  Song of the Sea  PG  running time 1hr and a half.  10:30-noonish.

Pre-registration is required.   Fantasy, adventure and drama abound in the Irish mythological tale.  Beautiful!  Check out review on line to determine if your child will enjoy this film.  Bring along some friends to enjoy the film together.  Film will be held in the OCR / Otter Creek Room.

11/11  Movie:  Kubo and the two strings  PG  Running time 2 hrs.  10:30-12:30

Pre-registration is required.    A young boy named Kubo must locate a magical suit of armor worn by his late father in order to defeat a vengeful spirit from the past. Check out review on line to determine if your child will enjoy this film.   Movie will be held in the OCR / Otter Creek Room.

Sat. Dec 2nd    Vergennes Annual Holiday Stroll: 10:15am – 12pm

Visit from Santa around 10:15ish.   Open to the public.

Vermont singer/songwriter Jon Gailmor makes another guest appearance at Bixby.  Jon has delighted generations of families throughout the state for many years.  He travels down from his Northeast Kingdom home to spend this special 2nd Saturday morning with the Vergennes Community.  Come and sing a long~ and lift your spirit!!  He will have CD’s available for purchase.  11-noonish.  Open to the public.

School Vacation Programming

10/18    Afterschool Lego Bunch.  “TOWER POWER”    3-4pm

Ages 7-9.     Pre-registration is required.  

It’s time we gather again and get our creative design juices going.  What shall we build?

What’s the best way to build it?  How about Keva planks vs. Legos?

Children age 7 must have a parent or guardian remain with them during the program.  Bring a snack and a beverage.  Let’s build!

10/20  Fall Fairy Houses      1-2:30pm  

Ages 9-12.  Pre-registration required.  Space is limited.

It’s a time to create something magical:  an autumnal fairy house.

Design something small and wee, a home for one fairy or create a village for fairies.  Some materials will be provided.  I encourage you to bring in beautiful leaves, pinecones, acorns, stones, and feathers you have collected; add your own special treasures from home to the mix.  Bring along your own glue gun and tons of glue sticks.  Bring a snack and a beverage.  Space is limited.  This program fills up fast!

Outreach

Outreach to registered Childcare facilities in the Addison Northwest District is available from Bixby Library.  Services include the delivery of books and other materials for loan. For more information about the Childcare Outreach Program please call the library (877-2211).
