Provenance: From Lake Champlain Arsenal early 19th century- Champlain Arsenal is the only Federal Arsenal in Vermont. Vergennes fought against Middlebury to acquire the Arsenal which was built after the War of 1812. The Arsenal was one of several buildings including a gun house, officers quarters, blacksmith. The only buildings left standing from this complex are the Arsenal and the officers quarters which are now known as the Fairbanks building at the Job Corps Campus.-note by Susan Ferland
