Description: The Vergennes Machine Cmpany Sole Manufacturers of J.P. Flanders Pumping Machinery for Town and City Supply Vergennes, Vt. 1875 Inscription/Marks: Found in the writing desk belonging to Strong Family Date/Period:Â 1875 Provenance:Â Strong Family-Asa and his borthers Samuel,and Luke came from Addison VT and operated mills on the falls. Samuel Strong was a general and brought troops to Plattsburgh in the War of 1812 against the wishes of the VT governor. Asa, Samuel, and Lukes houses are all still standing on Main Street. The Strong House Inn was Samuel Paddock Strong's house. Samuel Paddock Strong was General Samuel Strong's son.
