How to login, checkout, and download GMLC ebooks/audiobooks

Before you login to GMLC

There are multiple ways to login to the Green Mountain Library Consortium (GMLC), through your computer, through the Libby app, or through the Overdrive app. All three will be outlined below, please note that Libby and Overdrive will provide the same content, it is just a matter of preference for which app you like best.

In order to login and use GMLC you need to know your Bixby Library card barcode, this is the full code (letters and numbers) on the back of your library card. Please note this barcode starts with the number “2” and the letters “VSQI”. For example, your Bixby barcode should look like: “2VSQI00000WXYZ”. Your will also need to know your account password.

What is my Bixby Password/PIN?

The default password for your account with either be “userpass” or the last 4 digits of your library card barcode. Before using this in GMLC, we strongly recommend changing your password to make your account more secure, if your password is set to “userpass” it will not work to login to GMLC and you must reset it. Forgot your password, or want to change it? Go to the library catalog and click “Forgot your Password”, then enter your library barcode. A password reset will be emailed to you.

If you do not know your library barcode, password, or have any trouble, please email Laksamee, and she can help you.

How to check out/download

Depending on the interface you are using to view the Green Mountain Library Consortium (GMLC) collection, finding ebooks/audiobooks to check out and download can be slightly different. However, they all have the same general features. These features are highlighted below

  • You can search for a specific title or author in a general search bar, however given the limited collections and popularity of some items, this can get frustrating. We recommend you search, browse, or explore collections and limit your results to “Availability”, this way you can browse through items you know are currently available to download right away.
  • Once you have found an available item and want to check out, look for a “Borrow” option to click on
  • Depending on the format of the item, you can open the ebook/audiobook within the app, within a browser, or send it to a different reader such as Kindle, to be consumed there. This may require you to download and link additional apps to your account.
  • You can view your loans by viewing your account. Your digital loans shelf will allow you to download your items or return them if you are done earlier than your check out time frame and want to send items back so you can check out more.
  • There are pros and cons to using a web browser, the Libby app, and the Overdrive app. We suggest, if possible, trying all three to figure out which one best serves your needs. We understand the interfaces can be confusing, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you need assistance, laksamee.putnam@bixbylibrary.org
