Book Discussion Group – The Homemaker
August 12, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
August title: The Homemaker by Dorothy Canfield
“Although this novel first appeared in 1924, it deals in an amazingly contemporary manner with the problems of a family in which both husband and wife are oppressed and frustrated by the roles they are expected to play. Evangeline Knapp is the perfect, compulsive housekeeper, while her husband, lester, is a poet and a dreamer. Suddenly, through a nearly fatal accident, their roles are reversed: Leter is confined to home in a wheelchair and his wife must work to support the family. The changes that take place between husband and wife and particularly between parents and children are both fascinating and poignant.”
An ongoing book discussion group will meet the second Monday of every month from 7-8 pm in the Vermont Room. The group is entirely volunteer-led and is always open to the public. Check the event calendar to find out which book the group will be reading. Please contact Devin Schrock, lvnfree@gmail.com if you are planning to attend so we know how many books to request! The library provides multiple copies of the selected title, these are available on a first come first serve basis for Bixby patrons to check out.
