Children’s Programs

Storytime

Join the Children’s Librarian each Thursday morning from 10:30 – 11:00 am at the Vergennes Playgroup in the basement of the Vergennes Congregational Church for stories, songs, and rhymes. This program is designed for preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Kids of all ages are welcome!

Craft of the Week

Visit the Children’s Room each week for a new craft activity! Make the craft at the library or take-and-make at home.

Young Writers Club

The Young Writers Club is held the first Saturday of the month in the Bixby’s Vermont Room. The club works on fun and informal writing activities. This program is recommended for elementary school-aged children.

Monthly LEGO Club

Play with LEGO and DUPLO blocks monthly at the library. Fun for all ages and no registration is required.

LEGO Robotics Club and FIRST LEGO Robotics Team

The Bixby LEGO Robotics Club began in August 2022. Two FIRST Robotics teams were assembled for different age groups: the Challenge Team (Grade 4-8) and the Explore Team (Grade 2-4). FIRST LEGO brings age-appropriate engineering skill development and computational thinking using flexible curriculum resources. The teams meet at the library weekly to work on a LEGO robotics project. A competition at Norwich University in December caps the first year of the program. Teams will continue to meet weekly through May 2023. Through the club, kids learn vital skills including problem-solving, teamwork, robotics, and programming. This program is funded thanks to Vermont Community Foundation’s Spark Connecting Community grant program.

Kids Gardening Club

The seasonal Kids Gardening Club works on our garden outside of the library, from seed starting to harvest! This program is recommended for elementary school-aged children.

Summer Reading Program

Every year from June 1st-August 31st, kids ages pre-K to Grade 8 can participate in the Summer Reading program, Booked for Bikes! Sign up for the challenge on Beanstack here: https://vermont.beanstack.org/. Log every 20 minutes of reading on Beanstack. After logging five entries, you will be entered into the drawing to win the Grand Prize for a bike or a Kindle! Every entry also enters you into our weekly drawings to win prizes! This program is made possible through a longstanding partnership with the Rotary.
