Support the Bixby Memorial Library with a TAX DEDUCTIBLE online donation today!
General Donations: While our physical space is closed the Bixby has added multiple new virtual programs, more options for digital checkouts like hoopla. Curbside pick up of items including laptops is available on Tue and Sat. We have created more avenues for connection like through our live chat option on our website and we gave away over 850 books, crafts, resource materials, prizes and even toilet paper to our community. We have upgraded our internet to get a better free WIFI signal out to our outdoor space. We are not done but we need your support. We have cut our spending and cannot hold our yearly Gala, which brings in around 15% of our yearly budget. Now is a great time to support your favorite non-profits, who are doing essential work to help communities stay safely at home during this pandemic. As a part of the CARES act there are increased tax benefits to donating to the Bixby, and other organizations like us. Click here for an article about these incentives.
Special Programs & Initiatives:
Connecting Our Community Tech Loan Program: Keeping our communities connected and safe is a top priority for all organizations. While there is free Internet at many locations in town, lack of access to computers is an area that makes people who are already isolated struggle even more. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes and the Bixby Library have paired up to raise funds for Chromebooks for each location that will be lent out to citizens and youth to bridge this communication gap. Boys & Girls Club needs 25 of these computers for youth and teens who want to participate in our June-August summer virtual programming and to lend out to families who will not have technology access without assistance. The Bixby needs 5 to add to our 5 circulating laptops to decrease wait times and increase access to tech when our community needs it. For more info on the Bixby’s Computer Loan Program visit https://bixbylibrary.org/curbside-pickup/
In reference to the reality of this immediate need Bixby Library Assistant Director, Maddy Willwerth observes, “We get at least a call a week at the library from a member of our community looking for access to a computer or tablet. They are anxious and cut off and they don’t know how they will manage to apply for new jobs and unemployment, get in touch with their families in other states hit hard by Covid-19, or find apartments to rent among a myriad of other needs. As schools close and school property is returned many kids will lose this resource and many families have been relying on those resources to navigate our world mid-pandemic. The WIFI at the library is open and free but it is useless without the tech to utilize it.”
Thank you for your gift to this important initiative.
Rachel Plant Tribute Fund: We have also set up a tribute fund in Rachel’s honor. All donations will be used specifically for children’s and teen’s digital and physical books, programming for children and teens and additions and upgrades to the Bixby’s kid and teen spaces. All items purchased with the fund will be marked as in honor of Rachel Plant. If you would like to make a donation use the button below and chose Rachel Plant Tribute Fund. You can make a donation by mail as well and attach a note saying the same.
