Library Cards and Borrowing
Get a Library Card
The Bixby Memorial Free Library offers free library cards to residents of Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, Vergennes, and Waltham, Vermont. The Bixby also offers library cards for several non-resident patron categories:
- Seasonal residents who own property in the five towns may apply for a library card free of charge.
- Patrons residing outside the five towns served by the Bixby may obtain a library card for an annual fee of $30, payable at the circulation desk via cash or check.
- The Bixby is a Homecard library and accepts valid library cards from other participating Vermont libraries.
- Children aged 5-11 are eligible for a library card, but must have the signature of a parent or guardian.
- Teachers within the five towns served by the Bixby are eligible for a free library card.
- Temporary residents (e.g., those residing at the local shelter or attending Northlands JobCorps) are eligible for a library card free of charge.
Please visit the library’s Circulation Desk to apply for a card.
Borrowing Guidelines
Library patrons may borrow up to 50 items from the collection at a time. One attraction pass may be checked out to a patron’s card at a time, and use of the passes is limited to twice per month for two different locations. Exceptions to the borrowing limit may be made at the discretion of a library staff member or based on a patron’s category. Homecard and temporary patrons may not borrow items from the Library of Things or attraction passes.
Most library materials are loaned for three weeks and may be renewed up to two times, unless another patron has placed a hold on the item. Library of Things items are loaned for one week, and attraction passes are loaned for three days. Educators working within the five towns may borrow materials for classroom use for longer periods.
Online Account
Bixby Library patrons have access to an online library account which enables them to place hold on items in the catalog, view and renew items out, see lost items, and view checkout history. Visit your online account here and sign in with your full alphanumeric Bixby Library barcode and PIN (default is the last four digits of your barcode).
Renew a Library Card
All library cards must be renewed to confirm patron residency and contact information. Renewal is due after two years for five town residents, seasonal residents, and teachers. Out-of-town patrons must renew their cards yearly and pay an annual $30 fee. Temporary patrons must renew their cards every six months. Homecard patrons must renew their card at their home library.
To renew your library card, visit the library in person or call us at (802) 877-2211 to confirm your contact information.
