Edible Book Tea Party

April 14, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm

Help us celebrate Library Week…join the fun and make an “edible book” to share!  Bring your entry to library between 11 and 11:30.

Timeline
11-11.30: set up of edible books for display
11.30-12: show open to the public and reading of excerpts from featured literature
12-1 We serve tea and eat the books
1.30 PM: entries are judged and the prize is awarded.

What is an Edible Book?
An EDIBLE BOOK is edible. You can eat it, and it should be made of traditionally edible ingredients, but it need not be sweet. It should make reference to a book title, the content of a book, or a binding structure but beyond that only your imagination is a limitation.

Why an Edible Book?
Why not an edible book? We often describe great things as good enough to eat, and many a book has been described as something the reader devoured. Edible Book Teas celebrate the joy of a tea party with the absurdity of making something that you can’t actually eat (literature) into something you can! Who needs an excuse to eat cake and drink tea?

Can you give me some examples?
Past years in other locations have included,  For Whom The Bell Tolls – a pile of tollhouse cookies; James and the Giant Peach – an exquisite cake topped with a peach shape ; Bread and Jam for Francis – jam and cream cheese sandwiches.

Do I have to make a book to attend?
Well of course you should, but obviously life is busy so if you can’t make an entry/don’t have time you are still welcome to come and help judge the contest winner by eating the entries. You are also welcome to just come and drink tea, but if you have a favorite variety of tea, make sure to bring it…we only have a few flavors here.
