Rokeby Winter Book Discussion Group – Online

February 8, 2022

Book Discussion Program with Rokeby Museum

Tuesday, February 8, 2022, 6:30 pm (Black History Month)
How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America, by Clint Smith; led by the Bixby Library and volunteer, Catherine Brooks.

Goodreads readers give Clint Smith’s HOW THE WORD IS PASSED: A RECKONING WITH THE HISTORY OF SLAVERY ACROSS AMERICA an almost perfect score, and Rokeby Museum selected it as the Black History Month selection for their on-line winter book discussion series. Bixby Library volunteer and Rokeby Museum Director Emerta Catherine Brooks will lead the discussion of this engrossing book that examines how the real history of slavery compares to the stories being told through guided tours, memorial events, and preservation efforts, at sites ranging from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello to Louisiana’s Angola Prison.

Free registration for this virtual book discussion is required through the Rokeby Museum: https://rokeby.org/2022-winter-book-discussion-group/. When you register, you will receive a ZOOM link email a few days prior to the discussion.

The library has a limited number of copies that can be borrowed. Please email laksamee.putnam@bixbylibrary.org if you would like to reserve a copy to read.
