Curbside Pickup, Laptop Loans & Returns
There are multiple ways you can request materials including laptops:
- Place a hold through the library catalog. Login with your Username/Library Barcode and Password. Find directions on login and holds on this page, under Using Your Online Account.
- Call the library during business hours – 802-877-2211
- Email the library at email@example.com, please provide your full name, phone number, the book title, and the author name.
- Chat with us via the website live chat during business hours. Click the “We Are Here!” icon.
Please be considerate and limit the number of items you request to a reasonable amount. Also, we may not be able to locate your request in the collection, if this happens we will contact you and suggest substitutions.
Laptop Specific Instructions
Only 1 laptop at a time may be checked out to patrons age 16 and older. Patrons are liable for any damage that happens to a laptop. Laptops are to be used in accordance with the Bixby’s Patron Code of Conduct and US law. Bixby reserves the right to rescind a patron’s ability to checkout laptops if they are being used inappropriately.
Please allow the staff 48 hours to search, collect, and prepare your materials. We will call and/or email you to alert you when your pick up is ready.
Pick up will be contactless and occur on Tuesdays 10am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. We will place your materials in brown bags with your name on a table in the parking lot located behind the library. Please wear a mask, maintain 6 feet of space between you, and only handle your package.
Pick up will occur on Tuesdays 10am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. Call when you arrive or ring the doorbell at the ADA entrance at the back of the building, along the walkway beginning at the back book drop. A staff member will open the door and set your laptop outside. Please wait for the door to close before you collect your pre-checked out laptop. Please do not approach the door if there is another patron waiting there. Laptops may be loaned for a week with no renewals.
All patrons may bring returns back to the Bixby. Drop in either of the 2 book drops, located in the back parking lot or by the front door. Please wait if you or anyone in your household is sick. There are no overdue fines being accrued at this time.
Returns will occur on Tuesdays 10am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. Do not put laptops in the book drops. If you cannot return on Tuesday or Saturday within a week of checkout then you will not be able to check out laptops. Call when you arrive or ring the doorbell at the ADA entrance at the back of the building. Leave your item at the ADA door and wait at least 6ft away for a staff member to collect the item. Please do not approach the door if there is another patron waiting there.
How long can I keep the materials?
Materials, not including laptops or museum and park passes, will be checked out to you for three weeks, the due date will be stamped in the item. This three week period begins as soon as we scan the item out in the library, not when you pick the item up. However, there is no penalty if you return the item late, so if you or anyone in your household is sick please keep your items and return them late. You can also renew the item via the same method you used to place a request.
Laptops can be checked out for 1 week and no renewals are available. Passes may be borrowed for 3 days, and no renewals are available. Unlike most Bixby Library materials there will be a $10 a day overdue fee if laptops/passes are not returned on time. After a week overdue laptops will be marked as lost and patrons will have to pay for a replacement as well as the $70 accrued overdue fees. Lost passes have a replacement cost of $100.
What is being done to prevent the spread of Covid-19?
Curbside pick up is being done in a contactless manner. Returned materials are being brought into the building then quarantined for three days before being reshelved. All people in the building are maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, wiping down surfaces, and washing their hands regularly.
What if it’s raining?
A tent borrowed from the Vergennes Partnership will be used to shelter items during pick up. Thank you to the Partnership for allowing us use of their tent. If the weather is so bad that the tent is not usable, we will alert you and delay pickup to next pickup day.
What if I can’t come pick up materials?
Please place a request when you are ready to come pick items up. However, if you are unable to pick up items after requesting, please reach out and let us know so we can plan accordingly. We will continue to place your hold out for pick up for a week. However, after that we will return those items to the collection.
What about fines?
There are no late fees for overdue items except for laptops and park passes. If an item is truly lost or damaged, a replacement cost will be applied to your account. Please contact us to discuss payment. There is a $10 a day overdue fee if laptops are not returned on time. After a week overdue laptops will be marked as lost and patrons will have to pay for a replacement as well as the $70 accrued overdue fees.
Why can I still see the items I returned on my account?
After you return items, you will still see them on your account until we are able to scan them through return. Since items are being quarantined for three days they will still appear on your account. If you see an item still on your account three days after you return them, but you believe you returned it, please notify us.
