Curbside Pickup at the Bixby
Here’s “How to Do Curbside at the Bixby” in five easy steps: Request, Wait, Pickup, Enjoy, Return.
We want it to be as easy as possible to reserve what you want to pick up. Choose the one that works best for you!
- Place a hold through the library catalog. Login with your Username/Library Barcode and Password. Find directions on login and holds on this page, under Using Your Online Account.
- Call the library during business hours (M-F 9-5, Saturday 10 – 2) at 802-877-2211
- Email the library at email@example.com, please provide your full name, phone number, the book title, and the author name.
- Chat with us via the website live chat during business hours. Click the “We Are Here!” icon.
Please be considerate and limit the number of items you request to a reasonable amount.
We know! Waiting is the hardest part. Please give us 48 hours to search, collect, and prepare your materials, though we really try to get them ready for you much more quickly. You’ll receive an email alert from firstname.lastname@example.org when your request is in that nice brown paper bag, and you will be able to pick it up during the next curbside pickup day.
Some items may be currently checked out by another patron. By placing a hold, you will be on a waiting list for the item, and we will let you know when it is your turn to enjoy it! Also, we may not be able to locate your request in the collection. If this happens we will reach out to you and give you options for an Interlibrary Loan or related title.
Come and get it! Curbside pickup is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10-2, and Thursdays from 2-7pm. Just look for the brown bag(s) with your last name on the blue roller cart in the vestibule located to the right just inside the front door. We put them in alphabetical order so you don’t have to paw through them all and can handle only your package. And because we are all Vermonters, we don’t have to remind you to wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of space between you and anyone coming or going.
Ahhh. This is the best part, right? And if you are moved to do so, help others in the Bixby community to enjoy (or avoid) this book, too! Just send any of us a brief review that we can share with others, either anonymously or with your name. If you’re not sure how to do this, just give us a call. It’s pretty fun once you get started.
Alas, all good things must come to an end. Drop your materials in either of the two Drop Boxes (front porch or back parking lot). Please don’t drop anything off if you or anyone in your household is ill. While we do not charge overdue fines, please get books back on time so others can enjoy them, too!
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can I keep the materials?
Materials, not including museum and park passes, will be checked out to you for three weeks, the due date will be stamped in the item. This three week period begins as soon as we scan the item out in the library, not when you pick the item up. However, there is no penalty if you return the item late, so if you or anyone in your household is sick please keep your items and return them late. You can also renew the item by calling the library.
What is being done to prevent the spread of Covid-19?
Curbside pick up is contactless. Returned materials are quarantined for four days before being reshelved. A very limited number of people are allowed in the building relative to its full capacity. All people in the building are symptom-free, social distancing, wearing masks, wiping down surfaces, and washing their hands regularly.
What if it’s raining or snowing?
For the fall and winter seasons, curbside pickup has moved to the vestibule at the front of the building. Please go to the front door of the library (facing Main St) and just inside the front door you will find a library cart with brown bags on it. One of these bags will have your last name and first initial on it, with your holds inside available to take home!
The Bixby Memorial Library does close during inclement weather. Please check the front page of our website or our social media, where we will post days we are closed due to weather.
What if I cannot walk up the front steps?
If you are not able to walk up the front steps, we are happy to bring your items out to the back parking lot. Please give us a call at 802 877-2211 when you arrive.
What if I can’t come pick up materials?
Please place a request when you are ready to come pick items up. However, if you are unable to pick up items after requesting, please reach out and let us know so we can plan accordingly. We will continue to place your hold out for pick up for a week. After that we will return those items to the collection.
What about fines?
There are no late fees for overdue items except for park passes. If an item is truly lost or damaged, a replacement cost will be applied to your account. Please contact us to discuss payment.
Why can I still see the items I returned on my account?
After you return items, you will still see them on your account until we are able to scan them through return. Since items are being quarantined for three days they will still appear on your account. If you see an item still on your account three days after you return them, but you believe you returned it, please notify us.
