Description: Lock from the Champlain Arsenal Built in 1828. Gold padlock heavy weight with lock mechanism requiring skeleton key. Currently in locked status. Inscription/Marks: Only military establishment of the United States Built in Vermont Date/Period:Â 1828 Provenance:Â From Lake Champlain Arsenal early 19th century- Champlain Arsenal is the only Federal Arsenal in Vermont. Vergennes fought against Middlebury to acquire the Arsenal which was built after the War of 1812. The Arsenal was one of several buildings including a gun house, officers quarters, blacksmith.
