Bixby Library’s Oscar Bredenberg Collection

Bixby Library’s Bredenberg Collection Access by Binder Title

Compiled by Oscar Bredenberg, an amateur but significant historian who worked mostly in the 1950’s and ‘60’s, and given to Bixby by his son, this collection consists of more than 60 loose leaf notebooks containing manuscripts and reference materials pertaining to the Champlain Valley during the Revolutionary War. Included is a compilation of documentary materials into a day-by-day account of the war in the Champlain Valley. These are a researcher’s personal notes, compilations, and annotations, organized by chronology of subject. Several original manuscripts are including based on the research notes.

There is a card that deciphers Bredenberg’s record code (pdf and transcript).

There is a card index in the library that has not been digitized. Bixby owns the only copy and access to this material could save researchers valuable time sifting through and discovering relevant original sources.

Included in this list of binders are two relating to the town of Monkton. Bredenberg shared some of his research with long-time Monkton Town Clerk Leon Bushey.
